NE Monsoon Floods 2018

On 21-22 December, heavy rains in Mullaitivu and Killinochchi districts (Northern Province) affected over 44,950 people, damaged 156 houses and displaced 8,539 people (DMC 1500hrs 23 Dec 2018).

Authorities and non-government organisations are providing relief items. In areas where flood water has resided, there are reports of people returning home.

Increasing Wind Speeds

There is a possibility of increasing the wind speed to some extend over the Island and surrounding sea areas (particularly in Western and southeastern sea areas) during next few days from tomorrow night. Strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected in Central and Uva provinces and Hambantota, Ampara and Batticaloa and Badulla districts. More info www.meteo.gov.lk, call 117, DMC
